How to raise your vibration

For many of us, modern life seems to have taken over, we are constantly busy, running around half the time, or on our mobile phones the other half. The busier we are, the more disconnected we feel. We feel disconnect from our hearts and our bodies, and we struggle to get back into the flow of life.

When we feel like this, we usually turn to rigid practices that shut down our minds and our bodies, restricting thought and movement. But it doesn’t always work, does it?

I am an advocate for meditation, I’ve been meditating for almost 25 years, daily for most of that time. I advise everyone to keep a daily meditation practice, but I also know that it doesn’t always work. And why is that? Because if you feel too disconnected, your mind will fight the process as hard as possible, and will not give you the internal peace and quiet you need to sit still and meditate.

Worry not! I come offering a solution to this problem.

Although many of us seem to think that our bodies are just a vehicle and have no part in our mental, emotional or spiritual development, that is not true. Our bodies can help us reconnect to the flow and feel very much alive again.

As human beings we are designed to have a body and a mind which serve as tools in our journey. The mind, when clear and focused, can create incredible possibilities, and the body can help us ground our energy and even feel more aligned with our soul purpose and true nature.

The body is an intelligent tool that speaks to you, it gives you little nudges and indications throughout the day that can help you get back into the flow of life. You just need to listen.

When you bring the attention back to the body, instead of running around aimlessly, you start feeling more grounded. Your body starts relaxing and feeling more at ease. When this happens, the mind has no other choice but to follow the lead and your state of mind can change in a minute.

Try it out for yourself.

Think of something that makes you sad. Notice how your body posture changes, your head tilts down, your shoulders contract, you feel depleted, and your mind starts invoking all those sad moments you’ve been through in your life.

Can you see how your mind influenced your body?

Now shake it off and try something else. Laugh at something funny, a video, a joke, anything that can make you laugh. See how your body is moving differently? Your head is higher, and your shoulders are much more relaxed. In the middle of the laugh observe your thoughts. I bet there will be none or very close to none.

Can you see how the body influenced the mind?

The body, the mind and the soul are all interconnected. When you focus your attention back into your body, you can control what is going on with the mind, you can change your state and reconnect with the flow.

So now, try this exercise and see how you feel.

Stand up with your feet apart. Start moving your hips side to side, start slowly. Close your eyes (if you have no problems with your balance) and feel the body. Notice what it’s telling you. How does it want to move? Does it want to move the arms as well? Does it want to dance or jump? Whatever the body asks in that moment, just listen and do it. Allow the flow of life to take over for a few minutes. Be present in the moment, feel how your body is alive and vibrant.

How do you feel? I bet you are feeling a lot lighter than before, a lot more connected.

Now you can use this newfound energy to go about your life feeling a lot more connected, or you can sit and meditate for a few minutes, you’ll notice how the mind is no longer overactive.

Go on, don’t be shy. Try it out and let me know how you feel.
