The Chakras and the Spiritual Path

In our modern understanding we often look at the chakras as energy centres that we can use to improve a condition, either it be a health or a mental one. We very often fail to see their true value and purpose.

Rather than working with the whole system, taking the time to heal our wounds and gradually changing our perspective of ourselves and the world, we just look at the list of what’s to gain from a few focused meditations on one of the chakras and we just dive in.

How many times have you heard that opening and unblocking the 3rd Eye Chakra will increase your psychic gifts? That can all be true, but opening the 3rd Eye without the previous work of developing Compassion in the Heart and Wisdom in the Throat, the psychic vision can become self-centred and erratic.

The truth is that the spiritual path has very little to do with psychic gifts or even mediumship, but we often mix them together thinking they are one and the same.

Psychic gifts are a by-product of inner work towards self-realization, but they are not the spiritual path. They are something we do, not what we truly are.

The path to self-realization can take a split second or a lifetime. It is unique to you, in fact there are as many paths to enlightenment as there are beings alive. After all, self-realization is inevitable to all of us, eventually we will all remember our True Self and return to the Oneness of All There Is.

But as this may be considered too out of reach for the time being to most of us, I’ll keep this practical and simple. It’s only the mind that needs complicated routines and processes, the True Self is realized already and needs no effort at all.

The Chakra system gives us a path that is very easy to follow, you just take one step at the time and allow the Universe to drive you, life to flow and consciousness to expand. The main thing you need is the desire to know yourself, or know God, as they are one and the same.

Rumi couldn’t have said it any better:

“I SEARCHED FOR GOD AND FOUND MYSELF. I SEARCHED FOR MYSELF AND FOUND ONLY GOD”

Then you start from the beginning. You connect with the Root Chakra, you meditate on it, you can use a mantra to help you focus. You open yourself to healing and accept every step of the process. When you truly open yourself to this path, the universe will begin a purification process that is everything but easy. Old traumas, emotions, fears and attachments will start arising. You sit with what comes up and accept it, allow it to pass through you and keep the mind at bay.

You will know when to go to the next chakra and start the whole process again. And keep going until you reach the Crown.

Now, this path will ask you to let go of illusions in layers. You’ll think you have all figured out in a certain energy centre to realize it was actually a lot still to deal with. The more you allow, the more you release and let go, the emptier you become, the more space you allow for the True Self to be recognized.

Yes, it is a difficult path, not because there is a lot of work to be done, but because we are too attached to illusions, images and outcomes. When we understand that our perspective was limiting and that our True Self transcends all of these, we become free, liberated from suffering. We will live in this world, but we will not be of this world.
